Advanced viticulture
After a long process of organic regeneration, the planting of the native varieties, Mencía and Godello, began, with the proper care of organic agriculture and under the protection and control of the Bierzo Designation of Origin.
Bodegas Tenoira was founded in 2007 in Villafranca de El Bierzo as the culmination of the work of a family dedicated to agriculture and livestock. A few years earlier, in 1990, the Tenoira family had bought the most emblematic estate of the town, La Padorniña. All that remained was to recover the brand.
In 2017 the Tenoira family managed to take it over and finally, fifty years later, site and brand were once again united, but with maximum control at all stages of production, new techniques in viticulture and maximum respect for the environment. Today, La Padorniña wines are the most emblematic brand of Bodegas Tenoira.
Wines of Villa
and Paraje
Our wines are classified according to their place of origin within the demarcation of the D.O.Bierzo.
In 2017, the Bierzo Designation of Origin adopted the new system of minor geographical units that resulted in the recognition of village or paraje wines, among others. Bodegas Tenoira supported and joined this modality that requires winegrowers to reduce grape yields (kilograms per hectare) between 20% and 35% of the maximum set by the Bierzo Designation of Origin.
Guillermo Tenoira
Something must have crossed the mind of Guillermo Tenoira, founder and director of the winery, when one day he realized that he was not going to study veterinary medicine but agricultural engineering. The Tenoira family, like many others in El Bierzo, had been ancestrally linked to viticulture, but at that time it was not their main activity.
With the purchase of La Padorniña and the creation of the winery, they returned to their winegrowing origins and began a business project that combines the mastery of wine and love of the land with a determined desire to undertake and grow.
Guillermo Tenoira is an agricultural engineer with a master's degree in enology.
